Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a FREE tool you can sign up for and add to your site to keep track of your traffic (I remember having to pay a monthly fee for this kind of program in the past and it didn‘t even come close to all the features Analytics has). To run a successful online business, you need to know where your traffic is coming from and what it’s doing on your site. Otherwise, when you make changes or decision, you’re just shooting in the dark.
One big Key to online success is to test, test, test and keep changing until your site is performing at its optimum level. Every niche is a little different. And the only way of knowing if what you’re doing is actually helping is to have some data to compare results.
You need to be able to know what traffic sources are working well for you and which ones aren’t. As you analyze the data, you’ll soon be able to see where you time is best spent. Also, knowing what keywords your readers are using to find your site is huge. You can take this information and use those keywords to write more content for your site, thereby raising your search rankings and increase your traffic even more.
You can also see which content is most popular on your site, you can see which pages people enter and exit from, and the list goes on and on… There’s so much FREE data here you can almost get lost, so just work on one area at a time and if you set aside a little time for learning all the features, soon you’ll be a pro.
